The Metals Affordability Initiative (MAI) is a consortium, managed by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL,) dedicated to reducing metallic aircraft component costs and accelerating component implementation. Bringing together competing companies that share this common goal, the consortium comprises 16 original equipment manufacturers, component manufacturers, and metals producers, each of which is an important contributor in the aerospace supply chain and has achieved a tremendous record of technology transfer and cost-reduction impact.
